Things that are AWESOME: Galaxy Dress
- February 23, 2010
Ok, so the Galaxy dress by Cutecircuit has been around for a little while now, but that doesn’t stop it being awesome. The dress contains 24,000 LEDs, uses the same amount of power as 2 household light bulbs, and is powered by several ipod batteries. The LEDs are hand sewn onto a layer of silk, allowing them to move easily, and layers of chiffon diffuse the light to create a soft glow from the dress.
Whilst probably not the most practical use of wearable tech, (I can’t imagine it’s that comfortable to wear, but when did that ever matter in fashion?), and the limitation of the batteries running out after half an hour to an hour, the dress is gorgeous. Whilst it does scream “Look at me!!” it isn’t that likely to cause an epileptic fit. The light and colours flow and burst, creating a mesmerising effect rather than temporary blindness.
