This week I have been trying to become bestest friends with my scalpel, which so far has gone relatively well as I have yet to draw blood.

As I’m pretty much starting out, I’ve decided to concentrate on simple shapes and repetitive patterns, more organic designs can come when I’m more comfortable with mister scalpel.

This is one of my first ideas, some hearts growing in size, I wanted to create a similar pattern to a doily, something intricate and pretty. This one was drawn by hand, drawing several hearts on another piece of paper till I was happy with some of them, then tracing them in circles.

This one I got inkscape out for!! I decided to try out some stars as small hearts were quite difficult to cut. I then printed out the stars and created the pattern in a similar way to the hearts.

I then decided to cut out clusters of stars instead, I think I’m getting nearer to how I want to use all this, but more on that later, when I have pretty pictures to illustrate it.
